Singer-songwriter Sylvia Tosun is hardly your standard-issue dance floor siren. The classically trained soprano was accepted at age 15 to the Juilliard School of Music in New York, where her studies included opera, composition and piano. A human rights and social activist, Sylvia has toured the globe advocating for both the US Military and LGBTQ organizations.
After a brief time with the NY Grand Opera Company, Tosun realized her true musical heart was more diverse than the classics she was studying, and she soon branched off into "Rock-Opera", landing a position as Lead Vocalist for the acclaimed Trans-Siberian Orchestra, where she was featured with the chart-topping act in numerous platinum-and gold-selling albums worldwide.
Tosun's first full-length project, 2002's "Anthem: Vol. 1," comprised world music anthems sung in their native tongue from Israel, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Russia, Australia, USA, Canada and the U.K. Inspired by her extensive volunteer work with the USO where she sang regularly for military and foreign dignitaries, the project garnered international praise and served as a platform for Global Patriotism for the United Nations. Tosun's adage for this project is, "If we can live in harmony on a musical album, then we can do so in the world." Billboard Magazine called it "a journey across a world-music palate that is all her own and simply fascinating" and it was featured on the New York Times' Top 21 List.
Over the years, Tosun has created an amalgam of Electronic Dance Music (EDM) enmeshed with traditional songwriting and lyrical richness, which has catapulted her to the top of the International Dance Music Charts.
Her newest project, "VenSun" is collaboration with French DJ/Producer, David Vendetta. This project was recorded in the South of France and their premier single, "Love is Love", is rapidly gaining attention as both a dance floor filler as well as a musical celebration of equal rights and personal freedom of expression for all.
In 2011, Sylvia penned and performed the international trance hit "An Angels Love" in collaboration with DJ/Producer Alex Morph. Touted as this generation's new trance anthem, "An Angels Love," two years later continues to be a global sensation due in large part of the steady support of the worlds #1 DJ, Armin van Buuren.
In 2010, "Push n Pull," collaboration with Italian producers Noferini & Marini, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Club Chart and Top 5 on the U.K.'s Music Week Upfront Club Chart. In all, she has scored nearly a dozen hits in the U.S. and Europe, including 2011's "World Keeps Turning" and "Above All"; 2009's "5 Reasons," a collaboration with Loverush UK! (No. 1 Club track of the year on DMC's World Chart), 2008's "Underlying Feeling", 2007's "Head Over Heels", 2006's "Sanctuary" and 2005's "Sleepless."
As creation takes many forms, Tosun is also an accomplished Interior Designer, who has designed NYC's most premiere rooftop lounge, 'Upstairs'. Her aesthetic warms to those with high-energy and it was a natural choice to work with Director/Photographer Mike Ruiz; Fashion Designers, The Blonds; Hair Designer, Davide Torchio and Make-up Artist, Roberto Morelli. Also in Tosun's camp is Grammy- winning Mix Engineer and Executive Producer, Tom Lord-Alge.
Her ability to cross multiple genres has garnered Tosun a myriad of novel opportunities. In 2005, she was invited to perform at the Great Wall Concert in Beijing, China, alongside Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper, singing in Mandarin Chinese while suspended several hundred feet in the air atop the Great Wall. She also developed and filmed "The Venus Concert," a stage show of original songs that aired on MTV's MHD Channel—Viacom's first alliance with an independent artist. In addition, Tosun performed at the United Nations' "First Ladies of the World" celebration, for International Women's Day.
Tracks from her second studio album, 2005's "Jump In", written in collaboration with Julie Flanders and Emil Adler of, October Project, and created with Hungarian Producer and X-Factor Judge, Miklos Malek, have been featured in film and television (HBO-Showtime- CW11-Universal-Sony). Her skills as a songwriter and singer have merited a BMI Songwriters Hall of Fame Award for Excellence in Songwriting, five USA Songwriting Contest trophies, two USO Ambassador to Goodwill Awards and kudos as Talent in Motion Magazine's Best Singer/Solo Artist.
Independent music label Sea To Sun Recordings, which Tosun founded in 2008 with songwriter and producer Anton Bass, is a global, full-service company offering A&R, in-house production, licensing, artist management, events and artist bookings.
